I've got some explaining to do..

In a recent pose where I bolded the things I have done..there were a few questions that arose. A question about my tattoos and a question about how I saved a life..

How I saved a life. I was a lifeguard when I was younger at the county pool. I sat in a chair for 8 hours every day--It was only me and one other lifeguard so one week I would work four days and be off three, and would switch that out the following week. Nothing really ever happened at the pool, remember I am from a small town (no stop lights) Instead of going to the pool most people are tending to their farms so many days I was there alone. There were very few times when the pool was "full" and one of these "full" days a lady came with her three kids. Two older ones and one young one who couldn't walk very well. She sits down to hear all of the small town gossip while the older two went ahead and got in the pool. The youngest who I guess was supposed to just sit by the Mom decided after a little while to go in too. I was across the pool but saw her going towards the deep in which automatically made me nervous. Little kids and pools do not mesh well together. She fell in. I was watching her so I was in the pool the same time if not right before she was. I had gotten to her, and gotten her out before her mother even noticed she wasn't there. I wanted to scream at her mother. Had I been looking somewhere else (say the shallow in where most people are) it could have been a lot worse. Luckily she was okay, a little shooken up, but okay.

Now, on to my tattoos. I have three, but technically two.

I got my first tattoo when I had just turned 16. The lowest star. My mother did not know about it. (I was a badddd kid) It wasn't done very well (as you can see in the picture) but I still love it very much. I could only get one star at the time because if I had gotten more she would have seen it. Stars are extremely important to me. When my father died I knew Heaven was "up there" so I would pick a star out every night and imagine that one was my father. I would tell "him" about my day and just chat like he was right beside me. That is why I was so glad to get out of DC and to a smaller town where I could see the stars again, I missed them. When I turned 18 I wanted to finish the stars, so I added two more-- so that it a total of three stars: one for my brother, my little sister, and myself.
My second tattoo was to symbolize my independence. I have always always always loved the quote "Live, Laugh, Love" so when I moved to DC I wanted to get one to remember my experience up there. It is pretty small, so it is somewhat hard to see. It is also important because that tattoo is in my handwriting.

So, there you have it.
Do YOU have any Tattoos??

I like your tattooes - especially the one that that had such meaning of independence for you. Very cool.

I have two - both on my back. A sun on the lower part (but low enough to qualify as the "tramp stamp" and then a tribal tattoo on my upper back. Neither of them really signify any deep meaning. I got them because I always wanted them - which I guess sounds stupid. But 8 and 9 years later I still love them, so I guess that makes it okay. I'd actually like to get a couple more - which would have meaning...but they'll have to wait.

Glad I read your stories - how amazing that you saved a life. What a fortunate little girl - glad you were there that day!

My goodness... I'm so glad you were there to save that child! I can NEVER take my eyes off the kids when we go to the pool!!

LOL... I had no idea I named my blog after your tattoo!

Whew! So glad you saved that little one's life!

Love your tattoo story and the "sentiments" of each one.

I have 5 total (crazy eh?)

the only one i regret... is a tree frog on the inside of my left ankle that I got at age 18.. i guess it's a "rite of passage" in essence, but still.. if i had to do all over again, i wouldn't have done it.

the rest i love:

most recent:

dandelion in it's "wishing" phase on my right foot that wraps around and the last seedling curls up into a J for my l<3ve.

i have an orchid in the small of my back, very realistic and pretty. (i love orchids)

i have the letter A with a little crown on it on my left hip (to remember to treat myself with respect and royalty)

i have a black pawprint with a pink star in the middle of it on my right hip (for peyton)

All of them are "hideable" and tactful.. for that i'm grateful! :)

I do not have any tattoos. I've never wanted one until recently. I don't know if I'll do it or not.

I hope you said something to that mother who wasn't watching her child by a pool.

I love that your second tattoo is in your own handwriting. Thats pretty cool. :)

No. No tattoos for this kiddo. I am terrified of needles and cry when I get my finger pricked.

I'm glad you were there for the child.. Thats super scary!

what an experience for you and that little girl!

I have two tattoos. I got my first when I was 16 also, but my mother took me for my birthday. Then I got my second one when I was 18 or 19. I can't even remember. It was so long ago.

Great job saving the little one!

I love your tattoos - and especially the story of the stars. I can't believe you pulled off getting a tattoo at 16 - you rock!

BTW - You have quite the figure - high cholesterol and all - you got it going on fine mamma jamma!

oh - and zero tattoos for this lady. I might get one eventually. I don't know. I just like that husband has them. I'm a little too dorky to have one!

Yep. I have one tattoo so far, and I am trying to think of where to get a second. My bro is an award winning tattoo artist so I've got an IN. :)
The one I have now is a tramp stamp of a butterfly. BUT, I got it a long time before the tramp stamp and butterfly became all the RAGE. So there! ;)

First time commenting on your blog. Very nice tatoos!!! Tattoo can be addictive, doesn't it?

I have two tatoos and thinking about getting another one.

I DO like those stars, and they look really well done. and you are as skinny as a rake, you lucky thing - is that a hip bone I can see poking out there? I have only one tattoo on my shoulder, dates back to my 18th birthday when my best friend and I hired a car and went to Zeebruge in Belgium to a famous (then) tatooer. I got a chinese tiger symbol. Now it looks like I have a squashed fly on my shoulder!!

I love the meaning of the stars. I have about 22 hours worth of work. A koi fish for good luck on my right thigh and then yes *gasp* I have "Soldier's Girl" tattooed across my back. My next will be little Ms Vixen, a fictional character I adore.
